Algo Poetry-Behind the Lines

Projection and Pretending to go Home.

Today’s blog is an excerpt from the 28th poem of my third collection, “A Light Goes On”.

It is a sketch from a scene encountered in my home town.

A God’s eye view of life at a micro level.

There are many tools that a writer can employ in their craft, and when you have exhausted most, you can devise the most demented devices to squeeze new material from the ether.

In this particular piece, I decided to stride around the harbour in my home town, as, yes, you’ve guessed it, God.

The entire piece itself is a gale force wind that litters the landscape deliberately to elicit unusual reactions to elemental forces, but in today’s blog, let’s focus on the illustrative excerpt.

I saw a girl, stood in a hood, on the higher part of the harbour wall (unseen in the photo), in a wicked wind, a “wind that swims in your hood”.

Was she just experiencing the elements, tasting nature at it’s most extreme or was their something darker, swimming around in there?.

I watched her as I walked on the opposing northern side, and thought, what would an interventionist God do?

Would the deity whisper in the wind?, lift her off her feet? carry her home?.

In this Deus Ex Humana mode, I then encountered a little boy in a wheelchair, smiling at the swans, who had massed about the stony shore for bread and attention, and thought, how is this fair on him, on his parents?

Lastly, as I reached the end of the pier, the cross appeared, and as I reached the turn back point in my route, I encountered an elderly amateur photographer ,who in my omnipotent mindset, had missed his great opportunity at golden hour in his golden years.

“For Christ’s sake, I even leaned against that cross enigmatically”.

A poet, not a god, then pretended to go home.
